The Dragonfly Mercury Project (DMP) aims to track mercury levels across the U.S. to determine where and why mercury levels are high. This provides valuable information to researchers in areas such as public health, environmental policy, and land management. This project also allows parks to see the diversity of dragonflies in their waterways and is a great opportunity for anyone to learn about dragonflies, other aquatic macroinvertebrates, and aquatic ecology.
Nets, containers, and other collection materials will be provided. Make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and possibly a snack, as well as waterproof boots or sandals if you plan to get in the water. We expect it to be a hot day, so be prepared!
Meet at the Visitor’s Center at Mound City Group to check-in. The sampling site is a half-mile walk.
